Artist Statement
My oil paintings describe lyrical forms and patterns of light in a painterly style. I am inspired by the Russian School style training I received and by classical technique. I strive to transcend the physical scenes depicted on canvas, evoking emotion and shared human experiences through the process of painting. In my work I am sensitive to light, color, shapes, manipulation values, temperature and edges. I use a variety of brushes, a collection of palette knives, and even my fingers to create impressions, achieve expressive surface textures and explore favorite themes. Whether the intention of my paintings is to depict drama and movement or a sense of serenity and peace, I strive for truth in strong compositions that extend an invitation to the viewer.Resume
